Sweet Tooth

Anyone who knows me well will know that I have a huge sweet tooth.

For the past two months I've had the temptation of a traditional sweet shop which opened up across the road from where I work, and I've failed miserably at resisting a weekly shop there for 100g bags of traditional sweets.

I mean, just look at the place:

Anyone who can resist all those amazing colours deserves a medal. 

I always find it interesting with sweets to see what kind people go for. There are the hard-boiled types, the chocolate types, the liquorice types, the pic'n'mix types. There are types who like a good chew, types who like a firm crunch, types who like to have something to suck on. I think it says a lot about a person with what sweets they like, and I think a lot of it has to do with what you had in childhood.

I get excited when I see Choclick or Nerds because they remind me of Carol's, the sweet shop that stood on the corner near my primary school. We'd call in as a treat on our way home. Fireballs, Sugared Strawberries, and Sherbert remind me of our high school's ice cream man Pasci, to whom I'd race to buy from before the line (read: crowd) got too big.

It's been a general consensus in the office that I have a rather old-fashioned taste in sweets, favouring Kop Kops, Coltsfoot Rock, Blackcurrant and Liquorices, and Chocolate Limes. With the exception of Coltsfoot Rock which is a new taste delight, the others bring back memories of market shopping, my grandparents, and long car journeys South to Brighton. Like anything else worth having in life they give me a great amount of pleasure that might just be worth the fillings I'm probably going to need.

Unluckily for me (or luckily for my teeth) I'm moving on to pastures new with work and so will have to find a new place to get my sweet fix.
